Registry Insight- Model D272
The D272 was the replacement for the D270 and was still basically a restyled Model B, although for the D272 the tractor gained a more modern look. Still only manufactured in the Essendine Plant in the UK the D272 was also given the option of a Perkins P3/144 Diesel Engine. Production was from 1957-1960.
Below is a list of those D272's known to exist in Australia, there are more out there so please let us know if you own one or know of one so it can be added to our register. Unfortunately there are no records of build numbers or dates for the D272, the serial number is stamped on the transmission housing adjacent to the seat mount spring. ReplyDeleteI have a D272, It runs well, It is with the Queensland Steam and Vintage Machinery Society in Old Petrie Town Park, Whiteside, I should get the serial number off it. I recently purchased it off one of our other members who also sold his B model. would like to get as much information about the D 272 as possible. Dave.

DeleteThe D272 was built in Britain in two forms, the diesel from 1957 to 1960 to 1960 and the petrol from 1957 to 1961.
ReplyDeleteThe serial number list I have lists the diesel version with 1957 starting from 250.. then 1958 starting from 252.. then 1959 starting from 266.. and 1960 starting from 276.. The serial numbers for the petrol version appear to be interspersed amongst the diesel ones. The final year of production 1961 lists the petrol model only starting from 287..
